Fine days @ Koh Larn, Pattaya

Koh Larn (Larn Island) is a place to get away from Bangkok to have a chill weekend. It is about 30 minutes by boat from Pattaya. (According to Wikipedia it's 8 km)

I have been to Koh Larn several times because the beaches on Koh Larn are very beautiful. Even though it's near Pattaya (well known for partying, nightclubs, & bars), Koh Larn is very clean and peaceful. The most important thing is that it's only 1.5 hours away from Bangkok, so I can come here more often than the beautiful places in the South.

There are many way to travel from Bangkok to Koh Larn.
1. By bus : Take the bus from eastern bus terminal, Ekkamai. Get a ticket for Pattaya. After you arrive to Pattaya, get a taxi to Bali Hai Pier.
2. By van : The van station for Koh Larn is near Century Mall (the Victory Monument). It costs 100 baht each. You can tell the van driver to drop you at Bali Hai Pier.
3. By taxi : It should cost you around 1,200 - 1,500 baht to take a taxi from Bangkok to Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya.
4. By train : It takes you around 2 - 3 hours to get to Pattaya. I have never tried it because of the long travel time. But for people who want to try you can take the train from Hualumpong station.

After arriving to Bali Hai Pier, we bought tickets to Nah Bann Pier. They cost 30 baht each. At Bali Hai Pier, you will see a large Pattaya City sign. The boat takes around 30 - 40 min.

The most convenient way to travel around the island is by motorcycle. There are a lot of rental shops at the main pier (Nah Bann Pier) or you can just rent it from the resort you stay at. Most of the resorts have motorcycle rental services. The price is pretty much the same around the island, 350 baht per day (24 hours). The road is a little bit hilly and windy, but if you ride carefully and slowly, there should be no problem. There are many beaches on the island, here are some beaches that we visited.

(In thai Haad means "Beach")
Haad Ta Waen: This beach is the most popular beach on the island. It is the longest beach. In day, there are many people, especially tour groups from Pattaya that come in the morning and leave in the evening. This beach is not really my favorite because of the crowd. But, if you go in the evening when people have already gone back to the main land, it's very nice and peaceful.

Haad Ta Yai: It's kind of a private beach. You need to pay, like, 50 baht per person (I'm not sure about the amount but not more than that). It's very calm and quiet, suitable for people who want to just lay on the beach, read books, or get a tan. However, the beach itself is not very long, nothing fancy compared to Haad Ta Waen.

Haad Tian: This is my favourite beach on this island. It's very beautiful, the water is very clear and never has too many people. It's perfect for me!!!

Haad Sa-mae: Not far from Haad Tian but there are more tourists and restaurants. The symbol of this beach is a building that has a top that looks like a stingray.
